How we source specs
Every spec on Pro Cue Specs links to a source and shows the date we verified it. Our build checks this automatically: a spec without a source and a verification date can't be published.
The rules
- No source, no spec. If we can't cite it, the field says unknown. We never fill gaps with guesses, "probably", or what a sponsor's other players use.
- Forum posts alone never count. Forum threads, Reddit posts and comment sections can point us to a source, but they are never the source.
- Everything is dated. Each spec shows when we last verified it. Pros change gear, so we re-check specs regularly and flag anything whose source is more than 12 months old.
- We show what we rejected. When a widely repeated claim is contradicted by a better source, we list it under "Claims we checked and rejected" on the player's page, with the reason.
- Sponsor history needs dates. We only list a sponsor switch when a dated source shows the old sponsor (an announcement, a dated profile or a news report) and a source shows the new one. Undated profiles don't count.
- Prices only when sourced. We show a list price only when a manufacturer, retailer or official store page backs it, and prices change.
- Counts are counts, not rankings. Our "what do pros use" pages count what the players we track use. They are not "best of" picks.
What counts as a source
- The player's own website, store or official social accounts.
- A sponsor's player page, "what's in the bag" page, or press release.
- A dated video in which the player shows or names the gear (match footage, interviews, "what's in my case" videos).
- Reputable billiards news and results sites (for example AZBilliards, Billiards Digest, official tour and WPA results).
- Manufacturer and retailer product pages, for retail specs and prices only. A retail "stock" spec is never treated as proof of what a pro personally uses.
Confidence levels
- high: the player or sponsor states the player personally uses it.
- medium: a signature or sponsor product, a reputable secondary source, or video evidence from the last 12 months.
- low: a retail stock spec, or a source more than 12 months old. Shown with a ⚠ note so it never reads as current fact.
- unknown: we couldn't source it yet.
Retired players and legends
For players who no longer compete regularly, we show a dated "last known setup", not current gear.
Rankings and popularity
Player lists follow the official WPA world rankings, plus recent major winners (checked against results pages) and the most-searched legends (measured by Wikipedia pageviews over the last 12 months). We are not affiliated with the WPA.
